or do you need to buy the tree from a shop. There are tons of seeds on the my lilac bush and would like to line my lot with more, if the seeds can be buried and can grow. I dead head my bushes every year and I always hated to just throw them if they were usable. Thanks for your answers in advance.
Can lilac bushes grow from the seeds that are left after the blooms die?
if all lilac comes from root like a certain un-named person here says then,,that would mean that every one growing in the world would have to be connected together and it would also mean that they would all have the same exact look in each and everyway.
Of course you can grow them from seed, simply plant them before the snow falls and don%26#039;t plant them to deep.Sometimes it helps if you let the seed dry out before you plant. My mother use to keep hers in an open jar to dry out and then planted in early spring.
Reply:in a word yes... what you want to do is bed box them to start them once they root then you can transplant them into larger containers or outside.
start the process with 1 inch square planters and a under the bed box... plant the seeds and water them place the planters on the inside lid of the box put a small amount of water in the lid place box on lid... light with floressant lights on regular cycle and watch them grow.
Reply:Yes but they have to be chilled to make them germinate.
I grew them from seed and got loads.
Reply:Yes - all seeds are pretty hearty
Reply:No lilac bushes come from roots, If u get a new shoot that comes up near the bush dig it up and plant some where Elise given time it will root it self in the spring..

Japanese Lilac Tree?
My man brought home 2 Japanese Lilac trees, one has 3 trunks in the pot, the other has 4 trunks in the pot. Is this normal? I thought it should only have one trunk to be called a tree. Says it will grow to 25 ft. tall.
Japanese Lilac Tree?
Yes, Japanese Lilac grows and spreads 15-25 ft, thus it behaves like a tree.
Enjoy!

Is lilac bad for a cherry head conure?
if you can tell me if a lilac bush branch would be o.k for this bird or if you know how to find out i would be verry greatful thanks
Is lilac bad for a cherry head conure?
Lilacs are not on the poisonous plant list.
Reply:Mite are known to hide in the bark of lilac branches and need to be cured before placing in the cage of your bird.
Also know that ALL conures have a blood clotting disorder that needs to be taken serious with it%26#039;s diet. Feeding foods high in Vitamin K such as Dark green leafy veggies will promote a long living life.
I%26#039;m taken back by some of these answers on this board!! Which means you must be extra careful when taking branches from outside, inside to your bird, especially a conure!!
You can email me for further details!

Do lilac trees and/or rose bushes attract bugs?
We were thinking about planting a couple of lilac trees and a few rose bushes next to our pool area. However, we are wondering whether they may attract unwanted insects (bees, mosquitos, etc.). Any opinions on this?
Do lilac trees and/or rose bushes attract bugs?
All flowering trees, bushes and shrubs will attract bees. They are only there to collect the pollen though. They will not bother you if you leave them alone. Rose bushes do attract aphids (these tiny lime green colored pests) they gather on the bushes and cause damage....you can control them though with lady bugs that feed on aphids. Don%26#039;t let the small stuff %26quot;bug%26quot; you and deter you from enjoying the beautiful fragrance and colors of these gorgeous flowers. Definitely put them around the yard.
Reply:I know our rose bushes attract butterflies and lady bugs, but as far as bees, etc. not really.
Reply:My lilacs have never had a bug problem. Roses however attract many insects, the worst for me is aphids. But they also attract certain types of beetles.

My lilac bushes never bloomed this year??
just curious if anyone else out there found the same thing?! think it is related to global warming? this is the first time that i have noticed that NO lilac bushes bloomed at all ... just curious
My lilac bushes never bloomed this year??
Maybe in your area, but I%26#039;ve noticed that my neighbors%26#039; lilacs have all bloomed. Perhaps, (but I doubt it) your lilacs
didn%26#039;t bloom is because of one of these reasons:
The buds were inadvertently pruned off last year. The new buds form shortly after the flowers die back. See Pruning Lilacs.
The bush is immature. Most varieties need three, and sometimes four years to grow and develop, before they produce their first blooms.
Soil imbalance. This is caused by a pH imbalance, too much or too little of certain chemicals. We recommend a soil test through your local Cooperative Extension Service.
Improper mix of fertilizers applied. Flowering of both plants and vegetables is encouraged with higher Phosphorus. Sometimes, people use high nitrogen, which will help produce green leaves, while hindering blooming.
Insufficient amount of sunlight. Without enough sunlight, the plant often will not bloom. Lilac bushes prefer full fun.
Transplant shock. If you transplanted your Lilac bush since the last blooming period, they sometimes will miss a year, as they need time to recover.
http://www.gardenersnet.com/lilac/lilac0...
Reply:There was a late frost in the Midwest which retarded the blooms from coming out fully this year. Depending on the variety and how many years you have had them they may be past prime and need to be completely cut back or removed and replaced. Report It

Is lilac and lavender the same thing? and if they're not, whats tyhe difference?
i was reading the bottle of shampoo and it said scent of lilac and lavender
Is lilac and lavender the same thing? and if they%26#039;re not, whats tyhe difference?
They are different species of plants. common Lavender (Lavandula_angustifolia) belong to mint family whilecommon lilac (Syringa vulgaris)belong to olive family. Lavender is pale purple while lilac is dark purple, they both used as fragrance.
Reply:They%26#039;re two different scents from two different plants. To me, lilac has a sweeter scent than lavender; lavender has a slightly %26quot;sharp%26quot; scent to me. Lavender is an herb; lilac is a small (or sometimes BIG) shrub.
Reply:no, two different plants... lilac grows into a large tree/shrub... very distinct scent, strong, smells like spring..
lavender is a strong scent, but more subtle.. it grows on a flowering bush.. smaller plant... well established plants have tons of purple spike flowers..
Reply:Lilac is one kind of flower and Lavender is a different kind of flower. Although both are a purple color they both have different scents.

How to propagate lilac bushes?
Alright my mom has always loved the lilac bush at our house but my dad and her got a divorce and she moved. I usually bring her some of the flower each spring but I was wondering. If I have a healthy lilac bush, how can I propagate another one?
I have never noticed it growing seeds after the flowers so how do they reproduce and start another bush, and whats the best way to plant them to insure they grow.
I live in central Oklahoma, I don%26#039;t know if that helps.
How to propagate lilac bushes?
That%26#039;s really thoughtful of you and maybe you can time the gift for Mother%26#039;s Day (May 13th). Just an idea...
You can grow Lilacs from seed, although this is an exceedingly uncommon approach. At the end of the season, you can harvest the seed from the dead flowers after they have dried, but before they fall out of the seed pods onto the ground. Growing from seed takes time and patience. Most gardeners don%26#039;t want to wait four to five years to see the first lilac blossoms. Nowadays, growing Lilacs from seed is a task left to horticulturalists and garden supply stores.
Another and popular way to grow new bushes is to take small shoots from an existing plant. Select shoots which are one to two feet tall. Look for good root systems. Dig deeply to extract as much of the root as possible. The main root will be attached to the mother plant. Use clippers to cut it from the main bush. Plant the new shoot in the location you have selected. Add compost to the soil before planting. Plant three to five shoots in each area. Water thoroughly. Like all transplants, the survival rate is higher if transplanted in cooler weather. Keep the soil around your transplant moist, but not water-logged.

Lilac bridesmaids and Silver groomsmen?
My girls will be wearing lilac dresses, but my fiance really doesn%26#039;t want his guys to wear %26quot;purple%26quot;. Would silver work? Or should the groomsmen match the girls? We%26#039;re getting married in May 09. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!
Lilac bridesmaids and Silver groomsmen?
That sounds really nice!! The groomsmen don%26#039;t have to match the girls exactly. You can tie in the silver w/the girls by having them wear silver shoes, silver jewelery or having them use silver ribbon on their bouquets.
Congrats %26amp; good luck =)
EDIT: I am assuming you meant silver ties, vests, etc. for the guys. Silver suits might be hard to pull off ~ it would depend on the whole %26quot;theme%26quot; of your wedding ;)
Reply:I think it would look beautiful...honestly not to many guys like purple!
Reply:That is exactly what I will be doing.
We bought a swatch of the lavender fabric with us to the tux place, and the color contrast is very striking. And the plus side is that the groomsmen don%26#039;t look pathetically old school.
Reply:No, not silver. Maybe a nice dove grey.
Reply:Silver would work...or you could have black tuxedos with lilac buttonairres...or a deeper purple accent.
Reply:What about a silver vest and maybe either a lilac tie or flowers?
Reply:You REALLY don%26#039;t want men to wear silver suits. The humiliation will never end. Come on, how many times can anybody pull off wearing silver? Now how many times can a guy pull it off? Not many.
What%26#039;s wrong with black tuxedoes like almost every other wedding? Black is the ultimate standard and neutral color you can use for the guys.
Reply:I would go with the traditional black. If you would like a less formal look, the guys could wear grey suits.
Reply:i absolutely LOVE silver and purple together...
Reply:The colors sound great! The guys can wear silver with a lilac accent like a flower or hanker chief to tie it all together
Reply:I think that sounds great!
Reply:Hi. Light lilac for the men would look great...but if your fiance is against it....yes, I think lilac and silver look great together!
Reply:I%26#039;m getting married in February of %26#039;09 and my wedding colors are lavender, mint green and silver. I think just lavender and silver together would look awesome. Go for it. :-)

Reply:That would be an awesome color combination! I really like it!
Reply:I like that, but you may want to think about silver sashes for the bridesmaids so they tie together somehow.
Reply:I had silver and purple for my wedding and it look great, the colours go together really well and everyone loved the theme colours. My groomsmen didn%26#039;t want to wear purple either so I had them just wear a purple flower and they wore black and silver. It will look great.
Reply:Why don%26#039;t you get the groom to wear a silver tie and silver vest, the groomsmen to wear a lilac tie and a silver vest, and the bridesmaids to wear the lilac dresses with silver shoes and jewelery?
Or go to the suit shop with your H2B with a swatch of your bridesmaids dress fabric so that you can choose a colour that you both like to combine with your bridesmaids
eg. lilac and green work
Reply:As long as it is just the vest, however, my dresses are lilac and the guy at the tux store told me that it looks hidious together. He told me to go with the ivory vest to match my dress. That way the men don%26#039;t feel feminine and it does not clash either. Before you order the vest take the dresses or at least the color up there with you to see if you will even like it. Ask the retailers opinion on it. They will tell you the truth.
Reply:I think that will be very pretty!!! An idea, since it%26#039;s in may, your groomsmen could wear grey afternoon suits. with the lilac ties. those go really pretty with lilies. I did something similar with my wedding and it turned out better than I expected :-)
Edit: In that case, I think that silver ties and vests would be awesome. So that they can totally match each other, silver ribbons around the girls%26#039; bouquets. And make sure that any kind of jewelry they wear is siver or white gold. Aww, I%26#039;m too excited for ya!! Good luck and congrats!!
Reply:yes this sounds really good. you should be ok
Reply:I can understand the dudes not wanting to wear lilac. lol.
But the lilac and silver combo sounds awesome.
Reply:Silver because it will look better than lilac on men
Reply:I think it sounds beautiful. There%26#039;s no reason they should match. When the groomsmen wear black, the bridesmaids don%26#039;t.
Reply:Just my oppinion but Silver and Lilac seem a little bit clashy. What about a light blue for the boys? Light blue and light purple.. or maybe even a dark blue?

Lilac Tree Removal?
I have a lilac tree %26amp; need to remove it--has anyone done this? If you have, please provide specific instructions.
Thanks
Lilac Tree Removal?
This problem depends on if you want to relocate it or just get rid of it. Either way you have to dig up the root ball, carefully if you want to keep it alive or brutally if you just want to get rid of it. Also if you want to just get rid of it check with you neighbors to see if anyone wants it for their yards.

Lilac pruning - seed heads?
I have many lilac bushes on my property, infact one group of them is a regular thicket - I%26#039;m planning to cut out the old dead growth after they have bloomed this season as recommended, but my question is will I do any harm by cutting off the old dead seed heads now, as the plants are just budding out. It will just clean it up a bit, I should have deadheaded more last year but I just cut what I brought in the house. Thanks!
Lilac pruning - seed heads?
Lillacs are pruned after they bloom. If they are pruned now, they are taking a large chance of loosing all the blooms for this year.
Reply:Allowing lilacs to go to seed saps the strength they use to develop the next year%26#039;s buds. The budding is probably mostly for new leaves. Prune immediately after they bloom this year.
The Muse
Reply:yes you can prune Any dead wood without harm.
Reply:You can remove the dead blooms by just clipping them off.
Lilacs set their blooms for the next year immediately after they bloom, so if you are going to trim them up, do so right quick after all the blooms are spent.
I have a lilac that refuses to bloom ... I%26#039;m envious of yours.
Yes, you can safely cut them off ... just don%26#039;t prune back too much until you are satisfied with how the entire bush has bloomed. It is no different than dead heading a rose bush.

Lilac's can you snip a branch off to get a start?
I was wanting to know can you snip some starters off a lilac bush and put the stem in to water will it root up so that you can plant it later ? if so how long will it take it to root up ?
Lilac%26#039;s can you snip a branch off to get a start?
No lilacs require a bit of the root to start them.Dig a 2-3 inch root ball out of the plant while it is dormant.Late fall, very early spring.Replant in a new location.Once spring arrives water regularly and soon you will have a small lilac start. You can start several this way and have a fairly good size bush.It takes them anywhere form 3-5 years after transplanting to begin to bloom.Just so you know.
Reply:Yes you can, but not like that. You need something called %26quot;Rooting Hormone%26quot; or %26quot;rooting Powder%26quot; that you can buy in any nursery or greenhouse. You wet the stem, dip it in rooting powder and then put the thing into the dirt. That%26#039;s about it.

Lilac bushes?
I planted a few small lilac bushes today, but the leaves on them were all dried up. I%26#039;ve never planted them before, so I%26#039;m just wondering if new leaves will grow or if I%26#039;ll need to wait until next year. Or maybe it%26#039;s just too early in the season?
Lilac bushes?
Here are some guidelines for planting lilacs. If the leaves were all dried up, they may be too severely damaged to survive. Always water your plants the minute you get home with them. If you can%26#039;t plant them immediately, place the container out of the direct sun and keep the soil moist. Plant as soon as possible.
Here%26#039;s the first rule of planting: lilacs need lots of space to grow. If you%26#039;re planting a hedge, they%26#039;ll need a spot at least seven to eight feet wide and ten feet wide for a shrub.
They also need at least six hours of sun a day to have excellent flowering. Provide a well-drained, alkaline soil. When planting, add a handful of lime with subsequent twice-a-year applications to keep the shrubs in peak condition.
To plant, dig a hole about as deep as the pot is or even a little deeper so you can add some compost to the hole. Take the lilac out of the pot and score the roots to get them ready to spread out in their new home. Put it in place and back fill the hole. For one more shot of nutrients, add a bit more compost on the soil surface. Water thoroughly. Once the shrub is established, let nature take over the watering duties; most lilacs are drought-resistant.
Reply:Did you happen to water them in when you planted them? They may be killed if you%26#039;ve let the drought get too severe. When you plant virtually anything...its always best to water it in. Dig a hole slightly bigger then the plant water the hole with or without the plant in it then back fill as needed when the plant is set at the proper depth within the hole...top of plant root ball even with the ground level unless you%26#039;re planting in poorly draining soils then its OK to plant a little higher then ground level. Good Luck and I hope they are still alive for you..Lilac are very nice and aromatic.
Reply:plant in sunny spot, water at night ,but not to much. DO NOT plant on Sunday they will die!! After 2 weeks being planted forget they are there and only water twice a month, except in drought.

When is the best time to prune back and shape my lilac bush? I live in the VA/NC area. I%26#039;ve heard October or March, but I honestly think it%26#039;s too warm to do it this month.

Lilac Bushes should be pruned back in fall. They can be also pruned in early spring, but fall is the best time. Wait until the weather cools down some. Once the temperatures drop make sure you properly prune the bush so you will have it full next year.
You can also put a six month nitrogen slow release fertilizer down in fall. You can also do it again in spring.
Take a look at my webpage on properly pruning and get some tips. I will direct you to my site map also for any other information you made need on the Lilac Bush or any other landscape need. Good luck to you and if you need further help, please feel free to contact me. Have a great day!

I have a lilac tree that has deep purple flowers, but last year 1/3 of the tree also blooms white flowers.?
Someone told me to trim the white lilac flowers after it bloomed and then next year the whole lilac tree will bloom all deep purple flowers. This year, the tree seems to be blooming even more white flowers! How do I get the whole tree to bloom all purple flowers, as it should? It looks funny with some deep purple and some white. In past years, it was all deep purple. I have mulched it and put lyme to keep less acidic. Help?!
I have a lilac tree that has deep purple flowers, but last year 1/3 of the tree also blooms white flowers.?
It is because it has heterogeneous genes.
Sometimes it will bloom white, and sometime purple, because of the parents.
Reply:Is it possible that your tree was grafted? I have seen other trees that were grafted have some of the graft traits %26amp; some origional. If so and the origional was white, you would have to trim everything off below the graft.
I don%26#039;t think two colors of flowers look funny. If it is viney, I would wind the t colors of branches together so I had a little of both colors all over. Right now I am dealing with a hybrid rose bush that has yellow, pink, and yellow with pink tips on the blooms of the same bush, in varying digrees of color saturation. Strange, but I love it.
Reply:If the white flowers repulse you, cut back those branches - not just the flowers (or mark them and trim later). It would be best to cut them late summer or fall so that you remove next year%26#039;s white flower buds that form this season. It is possible you have 2 different plants growing together or it was grafted to have 2 colors on one plant. I don%26#039;t think acidity affects lilac color (as it does hydrangea).
Reply:I believe that you have a tree that is a result of splicing. This is done in the effort to create new species.
Do not mess with the soil! Lilac are not affected by the acidity of the soil. They actually tend to like undernourished soil.
Now if you try to cut off the white flowers you run a risk that the shock could kill the lilac. Personally i would leave it alone. If you want a pure purple lilac buy and new one and ask if it is on it%26#039;s own stock.
The following web site has lots of information.
Reply:In the begining of blooming they are deep colored as time goes on the blooms get lighter and lighter in color.
Mine started out deep purple too but then started turning lighter as the buds were getting older. Then they started turning brown and died off.
Is this what could be happening with your lilac bush?
Reply:I am learning something like this in biology at the min!
Its to do with the genes!
The tree must be heterzygous.(two types of allele) This means it can produce 2 colours.
For the tree to produce all the same coulour it must be homozygous.(one type of allele)
The make a homozygous tree(all purple) you must cross fertilise two homozygous.
This prob sounds confusin but i hope it helps:D

i got a lilac bush and it was two years ago and it done good now it died why?
Lilac bush?
Could be lots of reasons, but maybe fungus in the roots. Did it have enough drainage? Or maybe a mole ruined the roots. Also they like alot of sunshine. Check the stem of the bush...if it%26#039;s still green on the inside, then it%26#039;s still alive.. you could trim it back, and try again...by improving the soil! Good luck

Lilac Bush Question?
Heres the deal It rained a little last night and my lilac bush which is really big about 7 feet tall. Well it got rained on and is now some of the branches are falling. I think this is just because the rain added extra weight and when it dries it should spring back up. Am i right or is this a problem?

Lilac bushes stop blooming?
I have lilac bushes along one side of my yard %26amp; they haven%26#039;t bloomed in many years now. Does anyone have an explaination/theory as to why? How about something to fix this for next year? The bushes seem to be healthy otherwise, just no flowers!! thank you!
Lilac bushes stop blooming?
The part that is not booming may not be lilacs anymore. Lilacs are often grafted onto privet hedge rootstock. The problem is that after a while the privet starts sending up sprouts that kind of look like lilacs. Most of what you are looking at may be those sprouts not the original lilacs.
Try cutting down all of the sprouts (thinner than the original lilac bushes and coming out of the ground further than where the lilacs originated). Then prune the lilac bushes back to encourage new growth for the flowers to appear on. Give it a year or so for results to show up.
Reply:Short and Sweet ....Bone Meal them.
Reply:Please think about these two questions. First how are you sure they are Lilac Bushes? Second, a person walks past you on the street looking fit and healthy but are they?
I will assume that in the past you have seen Lilac Blooms and the beautiful scent they bring. These are true landscaping dreams, when in the right location, and a nightmare when not. Are the plants in full sun and fed each year with a minimum of fertilizer? Have they been pruned after each flowering, or better yet, have they been pruned in the fall to make them look like a hedge!
A Lilac is like a Forsythia in nature. It needs both open ground and full sun to survive. The flowering of both will depend on the care it gets. You allow the plant to grow as it will, prune only after the flowering wilts, and the next year it shows it%26#039;s color as more splendid than before. Hit it with a hedge trimmer in summer or fall and good-bye next years flowers.
Plantings, like all of mankind (unfortunately), also have a life span. There are trees, like people, that live a hundred or more years. Plants, like us, sometimes do not live that long.
A Dogwood tree, for example, will be healthy for thirty to thirty-five years then become a haven for pest. Our plantings have a life-span as well. Whereas we tend to put our family in Nursing Homes and say farewell there is a time to also say farewell to our plants.
If you have had no blooms, and it is in fact a Lilac, the plant is telling you it is in trouble. If you have tried to train it as a hedgerow you have defeated it%26#039;s purpose. If you have left it alone, aside from removal of the flowers and deadwood, you have a real problem.
If it is in fact a Lilac, go two foot from the dripline of the existing planting. From this point remove any and all grass or vegetation. At the two foot point make a eight to ten inch trough in the soil. At six week intervals spread a 10-10-10-with minerals granular fert. from the dripline to the trench. The plant will need 1%26quot; of water deeply watered (once a week) adjusted for rainfall per week. To help retard and prevent disease mulch with a shred. Cyprus or Redwood Mulch up to three inches from the base of the plant at two inch level.
In the fall (Columbus Day) add some Bone Meal to your final application of fert. Water this application in immediately. By next May the plant either comes back or it does not. You have left it alone, watered, fert, additives. You will have either bloom or gloom. No blooms yank them without thinking twice. Hope it Helps, although I doubt it does.

Reply:My family used to have a Very Large lilac bush in our yard, until my dad decided it was to big and cut about 2/3 of it off. Then we found out that lilacs can be healthy with out blooming. my mom asked around, and was told by the local nursery that you should leave at least 2/3 of the bush untouched each time you trim, so that you will still have blooms.
If you haven%26#039;t been trimming your lilac, then the answers others have left might be of help. But since no one had mentioned trimming, I thought I would add my two cents.

Lilac bush?
I have a lilac bush in my back yard. I bought it about 4 years ago, as a very tiny tree. Its now about 6 ft tall, however, the blooms never mature past little tiny infrequent white flowers. There is also not much of a scent. Its in full sun. Can you tell me why its not getting huge blooms like its supposed to do? What do I need to do to care for it? I have never pruned it, which I know I need to do, but could use some advice. I%26#039;m afraid I%26#039;ll kill it if I try cutting it as I do not know how to properly prune it. Thanks!
Lilac bush?
Lilacs require a little pruning to help it bloom next year. The old buds need to be removed just below the flowers before the seeds set in to help it produce flowers. Be careful to not prune ALL the new growth off. Lilacs are actually getting ready for next years blooms based on your pruning/care right now in June/July.
I%26#039;d recommend a basic Miracle Grow solution or compost for the remainder of the season, but not after Last of August. Lilacs really only require a minimal amount of pruning and care just a cpl of times of year. Most (depending on the species of lilac) are very adaptable and hardy. Sometimes Lilacs will get a white powdery look to them especially in the heat of the summer. Don%26#039;t worry too much about it if yours does. It is Powdery Mildew but unless severe...your Lilac will fight it off.
Reply:None of my Lilacs are mulched. If you are going to do some heavy pruning of a Lilac, do it now. Most plants are best trimmed after blooming. Lilacs are no exception to that. Be careful to not remove more than 1/3 of the plant per year however. Thanks for the vote! Report It
Reply:Lilacs fail to flower because of insufficient sunlight, planted too deeply, too much nitrogen, improper pruning or winterkill of the flower buds. The lilac may not be blooming because it is getting too much shade or nitrogen-rich fertilizer. You might be able to stimulate it to set flower buds by driving a straightedge spade into the ground around the edge of the spread of the foliage. Do that in about six places. This mildly shocks the plant into a reproductive cycle.
Reply:DON%26#039;T PUT ANY MULCHES OR ANYTHING AROUND THE BUSH.SCRAPE UP THE GROUND AROUND IT AND OCCASIONALLY ADD GARDEN LIME TO IT. THEY LOVE LIME.
Reply:Weak or spotty blooming generally means the soil is potassium deficient. Look for a local garden center that will perform soil tests and recommend appropriate fertilizer for your lilac.

Lilac Bush Pruning!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?
How do you prune a lilac bush???
Lilac Bush Pruning!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?
Lilac bushes should be pruned and maintained each year for a well shaped and healthy plant. The plants should be full looking, yet not overly bushy. If the plant is too bushy, the inner leaves do not get sun and air circulation, an invitation to plant disease.
Trim larger stems from the center of the bush to increase ventilation. It will also afford more room for newer shoots on the outside of the plant to develop.
Pruning should be done immediately after the flowers have died off. Cut small suckers and shoots at or near ground level, or where it comes out of the main trunk. Leave a few strong and healthy new stalks each year, especially if you are planning to trim back old wood.
Trim back any branches that stick out from the main bush, and is not appealing to you.
Topping the bush is not recommended. A flat top is not an appealing lilac shape to most lilac lovers. A slightly rounded top looks best.
It is okay to clip off old, dead flowers at the base.
In trimming and pruning your bushes, remember, beauty is the eyes of the beholder. If you like a tall bush, let it grow tall, If you prefer a wide bush, encourage shoots that have spread out from the main bush.

Does anyone know the name of this lilac?
Lilac%26#039;s botanical name is Syringa. There are many named cultivars which they graft on. Perhaps Syringa %26quot;Charles Joly%26#039;, Syringa x chinensis, or Syringa Souvenir de Louis Spath%26#039;. Good hunting.
Reply:I think your mum is right. French lilac ususally get bigger(longer) cluster of flowers. Perhpas, you can take a cut of flower and show it to the master gardener in your area or to a good nursery with knowledgable people. It might be hard to tell, since there are so many different kind of lilacs out in the market, but it worth a try.

What colors match Lilac and purple for my bedroom?
I just bought this beautiful comforter set that is lilac and purple and the curtain are a light lilac (lavender). So my question is what colors would accent well with this theme color, like what color should i paint my walls and what other color should i bring in to accent ? My rug is a tan color(light brown very neutral color)Please help If you have any suggestions! thanks
What colors match Lilac and purple for my bedroom?
White accent pillows, and your walls could be either a light shade of lilac if you can find a complimenting shade, or a sand color - light tan or something like that.
You could also do an accent wall - paint three walls in the sand color, and then do the wall behind the headboard (or the back of the room, opposite the furniture layout and hopefully door) in a color-matched lavender that matches your bedspread.
Hope that helps!
Reply:A nice cream or beige color would be nice
Reply:Try various shades of Green, Like lime, puce, dark greens, golden browns, yellows, golds, try some silver and burgandy pillows, for accents and try a taupe paint for walls and sheers for underlayment at the windows
Reply:Cream, off-white, eggshell, beige will work. You can also avoid those boring colors %26amp; contrast with a darker shade of purple or another color altogether. Blue, green %26amp; pink go well with purple %26amp; lilac. There are a lot of color combinations.
Have fun!
Reply:Find a color wheel and the designers say the colors opposite each other always compliment each other.
http://iit.bloomu.edu/vthc/Design/comple...
Reply:I would go with a chocolate brown..So your room doesn%26#039;t look to girly..because when someone says lilac I think too girly..Unless you like girly..Brown will make the purples pop as well..

Reply:I like navy blue with lilac and purple. I doubt you want to paint all your walls that dark, but you may want to do one wall as an accent. Blues and purples together are soothing and calm for a bedroom. Another color that looks good with purple is... believe it or not... green. It has to be just the right shade though. Take your cue from nature. Purple flowers and green leaves.
Reply:white. it always goes great with those colors
Reply:Yellow, green and purple always go together. You just have to stay within the same tones. For example, mustard, moss and earthy eggplant go great together just as soft yellow, soft apple green and lilac go together. Just make sure that if the base in your purple is warm (red) or cool (blue/grey) that the other colors have the same base. Hold your color chips next to eachother, you will be able to see if they all have the same base and thus tone.
Reply:sometimes baby blue looks nice, but go with the natural colors like tans and beiges and those will match fo sure
;)
Reply:a soft buttery yellow. Yellow and purple are opposite each other on the color wheel, therefore they compliment each other.

Reply:I would go with a chocolate brown..So your room doesn%26#039;t look to girly..because when someone says lilac I think too girly..Unless you like girly..Brown will make the purples pop as well..

Lilac bush never blooms?
i also have a lilac bush...no luck on blooming. It looks nice and full...but no pretty flowers. : (
What should I do?
Lilac bush never blooms?
I have one in my yard too. I don%26#039;t even know where it came from. We don%26#039;t do anything with it. We just let it grow. The flowers usually don%26#039;t bloom until the middle of summer for some reason. It may just take time. But, I don%26#039;t know much about gardening =)
Reply:It sounds like you%26#039;re pruning your lilac in early spring, when the flower buds are ready to bloom. We still joke about the fact that I didn%26#039;t get any lilac blossoms that year; at the time, it wasn%26#039;t a pretty picture .... Lilacs should only be pruned after this year%26#039;s flowers have faded and you can see the seed pods forming. I love lilacs, they are one of my favorite plants. As far as I know, they can%26#039;t be grown in Scottsdale, AZ, where I%26#039;m currently living, because it%26#039;s too hot! Good luck!
Reply:The bush might be older and has not been pruned for years. You should prune the bush every year after the flowers have fallen.( or when they were supposed to in your case) Make sure not to over prune your first year you shouldnt cut more than 25% of the plant. It might take a few years to get it to bloom but its worth it.
Reply:give it some time i have one and it took over two years for it to bloom it needs direct sun like though mine is in the front yard out in the open it finally bloomed and it looks and smells great
Reply:I planted the young lilac that i bought from the nursery by my house early last spring. It didn%26#039;t bloom at all. But this spring, it finally bloomed. It may take some time for yours to bloom.
Reply:It takes a few years for lilacs to bloom after transplanting. It could be no enough sun, it could be not sweet enough. Hard to say without inspection.

Lilac bathroom fixtures?
I just moved into an older home and the bathtub, sink, and potty are lilac from the 50%26#039;s lol. Any creative ideas? I cannot afford to rip them out just yet, so thought someone might have a good idea for decorating. I%26#039;m not the golden girl%26#039;s type, so i%26#039;m not into the doll-house type look, I think more of a contemporary taste. Please give your opinions. Thanks :)
Lilac bathroom fixtures?
light gray and crisp white. Maybe nickel plated faucets and accessories
Reply:try a like a seafoam green witha lilac trim or a very light shace of pink!
Reply:Try toning down the lilac with other things and accessories Mine are yellow I%26#039;ll trade with ya I could work better with lilac, lol I used seashell theme to incorporate more color to draw attention to other areas
Reply:I happened to move into a home that had lilac fixtures. I tried to color coordinate but it always looked so frilly or feminine. Finally by accident, I found that grey and yellow made a good but different statement. Try it- you will have to play with the different shades of those colors, but the combination worked well. When we finally remodeled the bathroom, we sold the fixtures - some folks really like those retro fixtures! Good luck!

Lilac could they be grown in a big?
the lilac could they be grown in a big plant pot? or are they better to grow in the soil in the ground... as ive just bought a baby shrub at the mo its in a big plant pot ... any advice thanks
Lilac could they be grown in a big?
Well, GREAT question, and the answer is yes, you can grow them in BIG pots.
However, Lilacs are %26#039;trees%26#039; and trees can also be grown in SMALLER POTS and even very small pots. We have lilac that are in pots as small as 6%26quot; and the trees grow very well, we treat them as BONSAI. %26quot;Bonsai%26quot; literally means %26quot;tree in a pot%26quot;. Remember that trees are OUTSIDE plants.
Keep in mind that you have to give them new, healthy soil (repot) every three or four years if the pots are small, water them REGULARLY without drowning them, watch for insects, and it helps to cut off the suckers that grow from the roots, otherwise you%26#039;ll get a lilac %26#039;forest%26#039; which is cute enough also, if you treat each sucker as an individual tree, and prune it that way.
Your lilacs will benefit from careful pruning, cut off any dead branches and very early in the spring, cut off the OLD blossom stems back to the base.
If you want a very decorative unusual-looking lilac, in the EARLY spring or very late fall prune your lilac back to the nearest CROOKED joint and let it grow a different direction, in a few years you%26#039;ll have a beautiful, gnarly-looking very aged %26#039;tree%26#039;.....in the pot. The branch will GROW in the direction the bud is aiming, so you can %26#039;plan%26#039; it.
Best part--have fun.
Reply:It needs to be planted in the ground as soon as possible! Lilacs are shrubs that spread from the roots. Keeping it in a pot will cause it to die from strangulation eventually as it will outgrow the pot.
Reply:There is no reason lilac cannot be grown in a pot...keep it pruned after blooming, do not prune again until after it blooms the following year...blooms from growing tips. You will have a %26#039;bonsai%26#039; lilac. Have fun.

Need advice for lilac bush.?
My lilac bush does not have very many leaves and the lilac blossoms are tiny and sparse. The entire bush is almost bare. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Need advice for lilac bush.?
Lilacs grow best in full sun and well-drained soil, where they take two to three years to establish themselves in a new site. Once established they can live for centuries. Soil pH (alkalinity or acidity of the soil) may affect the plant%26#039;s growth. Lilacs do well in a slightly acid to alkaline soil. Where I live, the soil can be very acidic and require modification for optimal lilac growth. Contact your county agricultural extension service or local botanical garden for soil-testing information and instructions for altering soil pH.
To ensure abundant flowering, cut off all spent blossoms each year and prune the flowering stem back to a set of leaves in order to prevent seeds forming, thereby directing the energy usually spent on seeds to next year%26#039;s flower production. If this is not done, good flowering years may be followed by bad.
When the plant becomes leggy, renewal pruning is required. Remove about one-third of the oldest stems at ground level each year for three years. This encourages the growth of vigorous new stems from the base. By the end of the three years the plant should be fully rejuvenated with its blossoms once more at nose level.
The plants should be fertilized in early spring and again directly after flowering with an all-purpose fertilizer such as a 10-10-10, watered in well. And tough as lilacs are, they need supplemental water during periods of drought.
In my area, the most serious insect pests are the lilac borer (Podosesia syringae var. syringa) and the oyster-shell scale (Lepidosaphes ulmi). Borers signal their presence by leaving eighth-inch-sized holes in stems and larger branches, often one to two feet above ground level. Oyster-shell scale, which looks like small, elongated, brown or gray warts on the stems, can be controlled by pruning out the most heavily infested branches, followed by an application of dormant oil spray.
Reply:After the flowering is done FEED it ! Bone meal to the soil for next year%26#039;s blooms and Miracle Grow for the growing this year.
Reply:Cut it way back in the fall (It will recover with a vengance). For example, if your bush were 8 feet tall, cut it back to 4 feet. Cut the shoots that are growing up all over the ground. Give it a Fertilize it well (as another poster said, Acid fertilizer). Give it a deep water
Reply:This was not a good year for lilacs in the Northeastern US! Due to the late cold, cold weather we had, the lilac blossoms were very small. Many people I know lost their lilac bushes this year! After having them for many, many year. Be thankful if your are still alive! Hopefully, next year will be kinder to lilac bushes!
Reply:Sounds like low acid in the soil...give it a dose of %26quot;Muracid%26quot;, made by the makers of %26#039;Miracle Grow%26#039;, you should notice some improvement in a week or so. Not a huge improvement though, cuz this is something you shoulda done a few weeks ago, but it%26#039;ll help.

How deep of a color is lilac? Are there lighter tints and darker shades of the same thing?
I posted a question, and someone thought that lavender is light purple, and lilac is darker. I think they%26#039;re both light, but lavender is more pink, and lilac is more bluish. Any artists know?

You are right in this one. Both are very pale shades of purple...lavander has a pink tint to it (meaning it essentially has more red) while Lilac is a bit more to the blue side. They are similar colors, in the same family, just differ in the content of primary colors.

Why didn't my lilac bloom??
This is the first spring we have been in our new house and we have a good size lilac bush in our front yard. Clusters of dark purple buds appeared but are not blooming. Lilac bushes up and down my street have bloomed but not mine. What could be the problem. I have heard lilac bushes need lime?? ALso when do I prune my bush? Thanks in advance!
Why didn%26#039;t my lilac bloom??
If you feel five pounds heavier.. you%26#039;ll know it%26#039;s time to prune your bush. :-)) Ok.. all kidding aside.. prune the lilac bush after it blooms, not in the Fall. It should do well next year. I have two lilac bushes and have never used lime and they do great every year.
Reply:French lilacs (that%26#039;s what the dark purple tells me) usually bloom later than standards. There%26#039;s still hope! After they bloom trim off the spent stems and you can prune them afterwards toward the end of the growing season. DO NOT allow the blossom ends to go to seed because that will stunt their possibility of blooming next year.

Reply:Did someone prune it last fall? if so, that%26#039;s your reason. A good trim after the plant flowers will be helpful. They don%26#039;t need a lot of attention. 10-10-10 fertilizer is all they need. The only time I%26#039;ve had a small amount of flowers was from not trimming the previous year and I didn%26#039;t dead head (cut off the old, dead flowers) the plant.
Reply:There are different types of lilacs. Some bloom before others. If there are buds..it will bloom. Where are you located?
You dont prune it until Fall and you need to be careful not to cut off next years buds.

Why Lilac Bush will not bloom.....?
I have had my lilac bush for 4 years. It was very small when I first got it, but has grown to about 3 1/2 feet high and is green and lush. A perfect looking lilac with the exception it has never flowered. Any answers to why? And is there anything I can do to make it bloom? My neighbor down the street has one and it blooms every year. It is watered and fertilized on a regular basis.
Why Lilac Bush will not bloom.....?
they do take a few years to bloom, I also had one for 3 yrs and it never bloomed, it was always so disappointing, every spring i would look forward to it, b/c there is nothing like the smell of lilacs or wisteria. have faith maybe this is the year!!!
Reply:Hopefully it is planted in the right spot. Lilac bushes need minimum 8 hours of sun. They also need %26quot;sweet soil%26quot;. If you fertilize with regular fertilizer it will just give you big beautiful green bushes but few flowers.
You need to add a handful or to of lime to the soil just under the bush, water it in and don%26#039;t fertilize it anymore this year. Unfortunately this will not help with blooming until next season, also only prune off the dead flowers, lilacs flower on second year growth. So if you don%26#039;t get any flowers this year just leave it and feed it the lime a couple times, maybe now and early spring.
I can pretty much guarantee this will work. I have given this advice to many others with great success.
GOOD LUCK and don%26#039;t give up!

My lilac Tree has moss on it What do i do?
I live in Central Nova Scotia and have two Lilac Bushes both are white lilacs but only one has moss that looks almost like Old Mans beard all over the branches will this hurt it and how can i get rid of it? Had these trees for 9 or 10 years never had this problem they are about 6 feet in hight.
My lilac Tree has moss on it What do i do?
Your question was about a tree, however, it is really about a shrub. Lillacs, in certain conditions, can grow into tree shape, however, they will always be a shrub.
First off you need to be calm and think about this. The solution to your problem is exactly what you see in front of you!! The exposure and soil content are your problem. That coupled with a few years of missed prunings, I would guess, hold the keys.
Moss and Lilac are like salt and pepper. Moss will grow in moist and northern exposure whereas the Lilac loves the drier eastern and southern exposure. Complete opposites.
I can put pepper on my food or salt. Eventually one will dominate . In this case, the Moss. It can and will continue to win because it is it%26#039;s habitate.
Do not use your time removing the moss. Spend it preparing a proper bed for the transplanting of the shrubs. Dig a hole roughly three foot wide and as deep. The second hole should not be less than four foot away to allow for growth.
Prepare the soil with a Canadian Sphagnum Moss, and granular (if available) bone meal mix. Mix in some of the topsoil and make sure the mix is uniform in texture. Water and let it sit a week.
With spades or shovels dig out the Lilacs at two foot from the base and three foot deep. You will undertake this only after the bush has dropped it%26#039;s flowers! Remove any moss before you do the transplant to a sunny and airy place. Put a granular basic low grad fert in the hole and above ground on the replanting. Water it well for at least two weeks.
As a Designer I love the Lilac. As a Designer I hate the homeowner. People want the wrong plant in the wrong place. A Forsythia is much like a Lilac. It needs to grow to bloom. The more room, the less attention, the more it blooms. Set yours in an area where you can let them grow and yet not impose on your garden. I should mention that you should hand prune about 1/3 off the top and side before you transplant. Makes the plant want to survive. Good Luck.
Reply:I wish I knew how to get rid of the moss that is growing on my trees, side of my house, gas tank. It will eventually cover everything I have read that moss will kill the trees
Reply:THE MOSS CAN KILL THE PLANT. JUST PRUNE SEVERLY AND PULL OFF THE REMAINING MOSS. GOOD LUCK

Dead lilac tree?
I have a sort of dead lilac tree in my garden (strange huh!)I would like to saw it down, the problem being little lilac shoots all around that I can%26#039;t pull up as they are attached to main root. How can I,a female without muscle power, get rid of the offending plant? Thanks to my learned friends.
Dead lilac tree?
If you want rid of the lilac then simply cut down the tree leaving about 6%26quot; of stump. Drill some holes in the stump as deep as possible. Into this pour some Root Out or SBK and cover the stump with a plastic bag. The root killer will work through the plants system and kill off all those little shoots because they are connected to the main root system. Unfortunately nothing will rot the stump for you it will have to rot off naturally. Cost of Root Out Or SBK about £6.00.
Hope this helps you and good luck.
Reply:Lilac trees are hardy little devils. You can cut them down to stumps and they still grow back.
Getting the stump and roots up is serious work. Why not just cut the stump to 6 inches above the ground, let the shoots all appear, then keep it under control from now on? It should flower in a year or so if you%26#039;ve cut it back hard.
Reply:This will be very difficult to dig out. If you leave even a small piece of root behind it is likely to sprout again and before you know it you%26#039;ll have a whole new lilac shrub. So, if you want to get rid of it permanently, you could try using a systemic weedkiller. You should spray the lilac in the spring when it is actively growing. (Be careful not to get any spray on other plants you may want to keep). You will probably have to repeat the treatment several times but eventually the whole shrub will die. Are you sure you want to get rid of it though? Lilacs do have the most beautiful fragrant flowers.
Reply:Chop the thing down to about 8 inches. Drill holes and pour in %26quot;Root out%26quot; This has the effect of overfeeding the stump and lots of shoots will suddenly appear then it will die off. We did this with a hazlenut treet which had massess of off shoots but it was right over a drain and had to go! It looked very pretty whilst it was being poisoned, then was a complete mess. It soon rotted down.

What is the breed standard weight for a Lilac Turkey?
Lilac turkeys are a heritage breed of turkey that is very rare and endangered. They are bbRrSlsl genotype and a lilac to lilac mating produces four types of offspring, buff, bronze, red slate, and lilac. Only 25% of an ideal mating produces lilac offspring. Lilacs are different than lavender turkeys and slates with which they are often confused. I have heard they are slightly heavier than the Palm variety which often has hens around 12 lbs and toms around 20, but i think they%26#039;re smaller than the Bourbon Reds. Anyone have any numbers on these guys?
What is the breed standard weight for a Lilac Turkey?
Yes, their average weight should be around and up to 20 lbs.

Does lilac and gold go good together?
I%26#039;m wanting my wedding colors to be lilac and gold, but I wasn%26#039;t sure if that would look good together. So I was thinking maybe lilac and silver? I want a purple color of some kind, but I%26#039;m not sure what colors to choose. I really like gold or silver, though my friend%26#039;s wedding is coming up before mine and she choose silver to be her second color and I don%26#039;t want her to think I%26#039;m copying. What should I do? What color purple would gold go with?
Does lilac and gold go good together?
I really think that would look great together.. but I wouldn%26#039;t get that REALLY shiny gold.. or keep it to a minimum.. like just use it sparingly in your decorations just for a little something. Use the gold that is more matte. good luck!! I think it would look awesome together!
Reply:purple and gold are so classy looking!! purple was one of the colors from my wedding. good luck.
Reply:If you use a really pale, champagne gold I think it could look nice.
Reply:I think it could work, but you don%26#039;t want to use a very yellow looking gold. Try to find a color that%26#039;s between silver and gold, almost like a metallic champagne. That would look beautiful with lilac.
Reply:They do go together, but I always loved lilac and silver together much more. Actually, before my fiance%26#039; and I decided on a fall wedding, we were going to have a spring wedding with lilac and silver for colors.
Reply:It is your wedding so it is ideally up to you and your future husband. If you are going with lilac I personally think silver would be a prettier contrast. The lighter the shade you should go with silver for contrast. The darker the purple you could get away with either gold or silver.
Good Luck/wish you and your future spouse the very best.

"The Lilac Tree " lyrics?
what are the lyrics to the song %26quot;The Lilac Tree%26quot;? where the boy wants a kiss %26amp; the girl says when apples grow on the lilac tree?
%26quot;The Lilac Tree %26quot; lyrics?
Sorry. This is the only %26quot;Lilac Tree%26quot; song I can find. Two different singers sing this.
I lost myself on a cool, damp night.
Gave myself in that misty light.
Was hypnotised by a strange delight,
Under a lilac tree.
I made wine from the lilac tree,
Lost my heart in it%26#039;s recipe.
It made me see what I want to see,
And be what I want to be.
But I think more than I ought to think
I do things I never should do
I drink much more than I ought to drink
Because, it brings me back you....
Lilac wine is sweet and heady, like my love,
Lilac wine, - I feel unsteady, like my love.
Listen to me...
I cannot see clearly.
Isn%26#039;t that he, coming to me
Nearly here?
Lilac wine is sweet and heady.
Where%26#039;s my love?
Lilac wine, - I feel unsteady,
Where%26#039;s my love?
Listen to me...
Why is everything so hazy?
Isn%26#039;t that he, or am I going crazy?
Lilac wine, I feel I%26#039;m ready
for my love...

Lilac bushes?
I bought a lilac bush at a nursery the other day. It%26#039;s not quite spring yet but the weather has been very nice here in Virginia; however, it%26#039;s fluctuated so much the past few months that it may very well get cold again. My question is: is it dangerous to plant my lilac bush right now? If I plant it and it drops to freezing, will the ruin the bush or the chances of it blooming this spring? I know it%26#039;s a perennial bush and that it won%26#039;t really %26quot;die%26quot;...i want it to bloom this year tho..Please help me so I don%26#039;t do the wrong thing
Lilac bushes?
Go ahead and plant it.
I transplanted some lilaces (Just too big a clump!) back in the fall. Barely even coverd the roots with soil. Thye are leafing out nicely. Its been warm a while, and now more snow and cold here (SoCal). I don%26#039;t think the cold will bother them at all.
Do plant them well, with a nice layer, 2 or 3 inches, of mulch. They will do fine.
They should bloom, if they have buds. Lilacs bloom of old wood. The buds were set last fall. So unless it is a couple years old it may not bloom anyway. Or if the tips were pruned off it won%26#039;t have buds. But usually there are ready to go.
Reply:I think that as long as it is in a sunny location it will be okay. As for it blooming this spring it would be best if the buds are trimmed off so that it can get Strong roots. That way it will be strong and more beautiful next year.
Reply:If a newly planted bush freezes the bush will die, I am sure covering it would help.
Also Lilacs never bloom the first year you plant them, and can take up to 3 years. They are very tempermental bushes.
I believe you are supposed to plant them in the spring, like end of April.Water frequently and be very careful with the roots.
Reply:I would plant it in a sunny location, if your weatherman says frost then cover with a cotton sheet, do not use plastic as that makes it freeze more

Lilac Info?
I found some lilacs that will supposedly grow well in the south. if I order them now, will they be ok? would it be better to wait until spring?
any lilac knowledge would be great!

If this is a reliable company, they will ship it to you at the right time to plant in your part of the country. So you can order it now if you wish to do so.
Reply:Spring is the best time to transplant lilacs. They do not transplant well in hot, dry weather as in the summer, and need time to establish themselves before winter comes. You could order them and ask them to ship them to you when early spring time comes. Many good companies ship when it is right for your area to plant things.
Reply:Order now. as soon as you receive them, plant them. That will give the roots a chance to develop before the warm weather hits.
As a general rule you will need to add lots of lime to the soil to encourage bloom. (that is in the south)
Reply:Depends how far %26#039;South%26#039;
Lilacs are not especially hard to grow, but they require a climate that provides a winter chilling period and will not bloom in mild winter areas.
The so called %26#039;Descanso Hybrids%26#039; are reportedly able to thrive and bloom in frostfree areas, but we have tried several here in Florida and never got them to bloom. In fact they all succummed to the summer heat, even though they were planted where they received some shade during the hottest periods of the day.

Lilac care. Is it OK to plant a lilac in a shade part of a backyard?
I going almost mad about a really nice wtire color lilac bush that I would like to plant in a shade part of my yard, but I am really afraid it won%26#039;t grow or won%26#039;t bloom. Any advise or suggestions? Thank you for your time.
Lilac care. Is it OK to plant a lilac in a shade part of a backyard?
Try to put it in a partial sun location or trim back whatever plant that is making the shade (Or is it a building?). You may be able to transplant other plants to the shade from a sunny spot and pop in the lilac in their place.
Reply:Lilac%26#039;s need alot of sun to bloom.
Reply:My lilac bushes are on the north side of my house. They only get partial sun and do well. After they bloom, if they needed to be shaped up, I do it then. If you do it later they will not bloom the following year.
Reply:sorry lilacs like sun, at least partial, meaning about 6 hours a day.

Is a Lilac and Tan mouse rare to find in a pet shop?
I have a lilac and tan (Lilac back, rich tan underbelly) mouse and a broken marked blue and white female. They just had a tiny litter of two. I have been doing a lot of reading on colors and such and lilac/tan seems to be a pretty rare color. Was I just extremely lucky? I would ask on a mouse forum but can%26#039;t find any good ones.

My lilac is blooming! ???
I live in northern Michigan. There is snow on the ground here.
... And my lilac is blooming!
OK, so they%26#039;re not big, tall flower spikes like normal; they%26#039;re small clumps of flowers, but flowers nevertheless.
What is going on? What would cause a lilac to bloom at this time of year? And what will happen next spring? Are my flower buds for the spring now gone? Is there anything special that I should do to help the lilac for the upcoming spring?
My lilac is blooming! ???
Your lilacs have become confused due to warmer fall than usual. When the cold weather really get here they will go into the dormant state again and should be OK comes spring.
Reply:I wouldn%26#039;t have answered but I couldnt help but notice the truly intelligent response from Izzy. I also live in Northern Michigan but our Fall hasnt been particularly warm in comparison to other Falls. Howevr, I have had a lot of plants this year blooming at the wrong time or exhibiting strange behavior. I planted border dahlias in Spring and they did not bloom until the end of October. I had hollihocks in full bloom in May. My nasturtiums did not bloom until August and my fuschia is still blooming even though we have gone below freezing for quite a few nights now. I can%26#039;t explain any of this but I do live in Northern MI. Leave your lilac alone and dont prune off the growth. If the buds have set probably only a few have actually participated in this strange blossoming and pruning now might cause your lilac to not bloom in Spring. Catch you next year on answers and we can see if we still have plants blooming at the wrong time of year. Oh yeah, I also had a sunflower sprout in September and bloom in October when all the rest were done.
Reply:YES, i LIVE IN Massachusetts, Lilacs, P.J.M. rhododendrons and the large leaf ones are blooming also.
My Autumn Clematis has bloomed twice as well.
Just today I say bearded Iris, white ones in full bloom.
As for help, Well plenty of water going into dormancy,
water deeply once a week. And lime, lilacs need a neutral PH. to grow in. Maybe if they are young bushes, not established yet, you might want to burlap and mulch them in for the winter.
If they are old bushes, then early in the spring cut out the oldest wood sand let the new wood take over .
Reply:If you fertilized them late that may have caused them to bloom in the fall and there is a very good chance you may not have any flowers next year.
Reply:Maybe just a quirk of nature. I%26#039;ve seen redbud and dogwood bloom in the Fall, not full bloom, but blooms here and there.
Cutting them back, which you shouldn%26#039;t do with lilac now, will sometimes make them bloom a little. I cut back a crabapple a few weeks ago and it now has a few blooms on the stub.
I%26#039;m no scholar, but I believe plants have a survival technique. After Ivan hit here a few years ago (in Sept) almost every tree, from magnolias to pears, bloomed. On some of them it was a pretty heavy bloom.
Reply:congratulations! ur lilacs are blooming! wat do want as a prize u want a lollipop or an old smelly, sweaty gym sock? big deal with plants growing
Reply:Ours blooms twice: spring %26amp; fall. We cut off blooms in spring, then they grow in fall also (but smaller). Next spring you will have usual blooms again.

Reply:weird :)

Would lilac accessories look nice with an ivory dress?
My favorite color is lilac so I wanted my two wedding colors to be lilac and ivory. I was wanting to buy may be some nice lilac shoes, necklace, earrings, and a purse. Do ya think it would look right? Also does anyone know where I can find some nice lilac shoes at?
Would lilac accessories look nice with an ivory dress?
Yes I think the colours would complement each other...
Reply:Those colors sound really pretty together. I don%26#039;t think I have ever seen lilac colored shoes, maybe I just never paid attention. You could try some of the larger online shoe stores like Zappos, and some places will dye your shoes for you if you find a style you like, and it is the wrong color, considering it would have to be a color they could dye lilac of course.
Reply:Very classy, have a lovely day!
Reply:Yes. The colours would work well together. If you need lilac shoes, then you are probably looking for them at the right time. With the hot weather coming all the shops are busy trying to sell their summer lines. Take a look at you local shoe shops or online to see what you can find.

Lilac & Silver?
Do you think lilac and silver would work for wedding colors? The girls would be in lilac and the guys vests would be silver. I can%26#039;t decide which purple would look best. I have narrowed it down to these colors from Davids Bridal:
Hyacinth
Victorian Lilac
Lilac
Light Peri
Also what could you do for the flowers?
Lilac %26amp; Silver?
I think that sounds great, I like the color Hyacinth, it be be beautiful with the Silver, Have the guys wear that color in a flower on there tux!!!! You can get purple or lilac flowers splashed everywhere. Maybe do a mixture of those colors you like with the flowers.
Reply:Hey
I went with Lilac for Bridesmaids matching vests from Afterhours for the Groomsmen and the mother color is Victorian Lilac. Our wedding is next week and the colors look amazing together!
Good Luck!!!
Reply:It sounds beautiful I would suggest maybe Lilac and a darker shade of purple with silver as an accent color. Have the guys vests be silver with lilac or purple ties.
Reply:Lilac is fine, not thrilled about silver for a wedding.
My colours were pink, yellow, lilac, and light teal, if that gives you any idea...
Reply:I am also doing lilac and silver so yes I do think their great! I am also using eggplant and still trying to figure out how to tie them all together.
Reply:I don%26#039;t think I like lilac with silver-maybe one of the more medium purple colors. Also, another way to tie in the silver is to have the girls wear silver shoes. This would look good!
For my wedding, it was on a beach so each girl wore different shades of blue (beachy shades) and the guys wore silver vests and it tied together very nicely.
Enjoy! Let us know what you finally decide!
Reply:that sounds great! make sure that the flowers and decorations match! very cute %26lt;3
Reply:i think any kind of light-medium purplr would go well with silver, it%26#039;s really up to the bride and groom
Reply:My friend Tiffany did lilac and silver in her 2004 wedding and it looked very nice.
Reply:I like lilac and periwinkle both and they would both work with silver. For the flowers you could do lavender nosegays with white roses. Here is a picture of a bouquet so you have an idea. http://www.thebridesbouquet.com/sweetLav...
I%26#039;m using this one with yellow roses as my colors are lilac and yellow.
Reply:I love purple, when I got married, the bridesmaids wore purple.
Flowers, I would say go with purple and white, just ask the florist, they can recommend what would be best. Throw a little more color in, probably some yellows or pinks or something.
Reply:I likw the lilac and victorian lilac...actually my bridesmaids dresses have both colors! They are really pretty.
and silver goes really nice with lilac, good choices.
Reply:I like lilac and the Victorian Lilac. If you don%26#039;t want blue stay away from the peri - it is more blue than purple. I would go with the silver vests for the guys too. I had the girls in periwinkle and I didn%26#039;t want to subject the guys to periwinkle vests so we went with silver. I didn%26#039;t have silver anywhere else and it still looked nice.
For flowers you could go traditional or bold. Traditional would be light pinks, light purples, cream. Bold would be like hot pink with bright irises. I went with bold and everyone loved it. They were hot pink and bright yellow roses, with purple irises and blue delphinium to tie it back in with the dresses. It looked great and people told me they would have never thought of that color combo but it really complimented and stood out against the dresses.
Reply:That is a beautiful idea! My wedding is on monday!! (ahhh) and my main color is purple. For more drama go with a dark purple for more summery go with the light. I like both (my reception and my top are in the dark purple. Congrats and I hope both of our weddings are wonderful!!!
Reply:you could have the girls wear silver strappy shoes...that would look cool. also a silver ribbon around each girls bouquet would pick up some of that silver from the guys%26#039; vests. as for the flowers themselves...i think sprays of lilac would be gorgeous.
Reply:Lilac and silver. Would a pretty choice. Flowers depend if you are going real or silk. You could go from deep rich lilac to a very pale almost silver. Really depends on your favourite.

Lilac or Light Blue for wedding color?
My very favorite color is blue, and always has been. But for some reason I%26#039;ve been drawn to the color Lilac for my wedding. I think it was the lilac colored roses I received a few years ago from my b/f that I loved. Although I received other roses from him, I loved those especially and have wanted lilac and cream colored roses at our wedding ever since.
I%26#039;m seeing a beautiful cake with lilac touches, lilac roses on the table, and even these invitations I found with lilac roses on them.
However my b/f has issues with purple and pink. He%26#039;d rather not have them. I think I can sway him, but he won%26#039;t like it. I%26#039;ve found some things I like in light blue also, and the color is very close.
Which color should I go with?
